| The way I see it Governor Ritter's two choices for Secretary of State are Ken Gordon and Rosemary Rodriguez. Ken Gordon is an idealogically committed political activist. Rosemary Rodriguez is a self-committed political opportunist.
Secretary of State is an important position. The appointee is practically guaranteed to win the subsequent election. Standards of professionalism and neutrality should be essential when selecting the appointee. The Governor and his candidates should mutually agree who ever serves needs to put the greater good above partisan or self interests.
Elections matter. Who knows? Ken Gordon might be Secretary of State today had those alledged 20,000 voters in 2006 not walked away without voting. Denver could be crutial in the November Presidential race with so many potential Obama votes in our formerly Republican, currently unknowable electorate. Elections really matter.
The Secretary of State has signifcant statutory and political influence over elections. With all his experience, Ken Gordon seems oblivious to
standards of professionalism and neutrality in the administration of elections. Could he sacrifice his partisan activism?
The Ubiquitous Rodriguez. Perfoming Arts!Clerk and Recorder!Commissions and Boards!Councilwoman!Election Assistance Commissioner! She'll game the system to increase her base for future Mayorial, Gubernatorial or Congressional races. Ever the dilattante, would Rodriguez stay in the office long enough to even adequately serve?
Governor, focus on the greater good. Not on what will promote your political standing within your party. Not what will promote the greedy self absorption of one individual political opportunist. You've got it in you to do the right thing. Besides, when those phone records become public, you'll need a neutralizer. |
